  22. DESCRIPTION
  23.         Smodem is a new generation file transfer protocol. Unlike older
  24.         protocols, like Zmodem, it has a separate low level multiplexed
  25.         transfer layer (MSLP) and a high level file transfer layer. This
  26.         new design simplifies protocol design and will give a maximum
  27.         efficiency of as high as 99,5%.
  28.  
  29.         Multiplexing has made it possible to send one or more files in one
  30.         continuous stream without any breaks between files. This will boost
  31.         multiple file transfers dramatically.

  33.         Smodem allows you to have chat during filetransfer. Chat is done
  34.         via string gadget and the whole "sentence" is sent at once. This
  35.         allows easy implementation of multinode chats during file transfers
  36.         and tranferrates don't decrease drascticly.

  38.         The protocol has a symmetrical nature. You can connect Smodem with
  39.         itself by looping transmitted characters back to the receiver.
  40.         There is no reason to limit transfers in one direction. Smodem
  41.         will transfer files in both directions at the same time without
  42.         noticeable performance loss.

  44.         SModem works also on telnet lines, if encapsulation is turned on.
